The Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre are thrilled to announce that, for the first time ever, legendary ice skating duo Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean will talk to fans in an intimate setting about their fascinating career and give their own side to the stories that have been reported in the press over the years.
The ‘Our Life On Ice: In Conversation With Torvill & Dean’ UK theatre tour follows the publication of their much anticipated autobiography, ‘Torvill & Dean: Our Life On Ice’. Ticket holders will receive a limited edition copy of the book, only available to audiences of this very limited run!
Torvill & Dean said: “We are both very much looking forward to the UK tour that will combine our love of being on stage in front of our fans with the publication of our autobiography. The fact that we won’t be on the ice might seem strange at first, but it will give us the chance to meet the people who have supported us over the past 30 years in an intimate setting where we can share our stories live in front of theatre audiences.”
When Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean threw themselves to the ice for the climax of their routine for the Bolero at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, the judges could find no faults and awarded them the 12 maximum scores of 6.0, while 24-million British viewers watched at home in amazement.
Following that triumphant win, the world became fascinated by ice skating and everyone wanted to know more about the young couple at the heart of it all.
Despite intense interest in them both from media and the public alike, Torvill & Dean kept their lives private, with many still wondering if the pair were really a couple both on and off the ice. They turned professional and would eventually spend 10 glorious years working on ITV’s Dancing on Ice, yet with still much of their story remaining untold.
Now, in ‘Torvill & Dean – Our Life On Ice’ (to be published by Simon & Schuster on 8th October), the iconic Olympic champions finally open up about the challenges they have faced and the pressures of life in the public eye. Jayne speaks candidly about her struggles to start a family, while Chris reveals the heartache within his own family story. And of course, there is the skating, and the stories about what inspired their famous routines, and what the pair hope to achieve in the future as they approach their 40th Anniversary of working together.
It is the book that millions of their fans have been waiting to read and the UK tour gives their fans the chance to hear the stories from the book live and in person.
