“My goodness, someone's playing a first rate game of hockey over there!”
Daisy Pulls It Off
Newcastle People’s Theatre
Tuesday 20 – Saturday 24 January 2015
Jubilate! The People’s Theatre are about to present their first play of 2015 ‘Daisy Pulls It Off’, a hilarious pastiche of the classic pre-war girls’ boarding school novel.
It's 1927, and Daisy Meredith is the poor-but-clever elementary school girl who is over the moon when she wins a scholarship to Grangewood School for Young Ladies - "the jolliest school in England".
Adventures abound when she arrives, chumming up with new best friend Trixie to hunt for the school’s legendary hidden treasure, all while dodging the fearful plotting of the class rotters, snobby Sybil and her toadying friend Monica.
Will Daisy find the treasure? Who is that mystery man and why is he always whistling? Will Grangewood win the all-important hockey match?
The rollicking fun of Deegan’s tongue-in-cheek parody is enhanced by the parts of the “gels” being played by adults. Indeed, the more eagle-eyed members of our audience may well spot some St Trinian’s-style casting at work if they take a close look at some of the teachers!
Daisy Pulls It Off is a ripping yarn that conjures up a hilarious world of midnight feasts, dormy pillow fights, plucky schoolgirls and class bullies! Not to be missed!
