Whitley Bay Operatic Society presents
Our House
Whitley Bay Playhouse
Wednesday 20th April – Saturday 23rd April 2016

Following the huge success of ‘Sunshine on Leith’ last April at the Playhouse, Whitley Bay Operatic society Ltd and its members are preparing to tread the boards with another award winning musical – ‘Our House’.

First presented at the Cambridge Theatre in London in 2002, ‘Our House’ combines a witty and brilliantly-crafted romantic tale with the energetic and often madcap songs of Madness. ‘Our House’ is the story of Joe Casey who, on the night of his sixteenth birthday, takes Sarah, the girl of his dreams, out on their first date. In an effort to impress her with bravado, he breaks into a building site overlooking his home on Casey Street, which is owned by Mister Pressman, a high-end property developer. The police turn up, at which point Joe’s life splits into two: the Good Joe, who stays to help, and Bad Joe, who flees.

Leading man Simon Pinkney said: “It’s such a fantastic show, not only does it have some of the best songs by Madness, the story is also like no other. It’s been such a fun rehearsal period and I’ve loved getting to grips with the challenge of not only playing the lead character but having to technically play 2 parts – Good Joe & Bad Joe.”

After the successful fundraising efforts during their last production, ‘Sunshine on Leith’, where they managed to raise a significant amount of money for Help for Heroes, the society are also calling on its patrons to help with another effort. Cast member Stan Hind and his son – ‘Our House’ Stage Manager Glen Hind – are planning on climbing Mount Everest Base camp later in the year to raise funds for St Oswald’s Hospice. The society will be holding bucket collections before and after the show, with all proceeds going to help St Oswald’s continue the support and specialist care it provides for adults, young people and children across the North East with incurable conditions.
