X – Factor, BGT & The Voice Watch

X – Factor, BGT & The Voice Watch

It seems that no musical tour is complete without a star from a tv talent show. This is a bit ironic given that Simon Cowell used to used “that’s too much like Broadway” as an insult for the auditioning contestants. Perhaps the X-Factor should be renamed “Musical Factor”?

When one thinks about it – the tv programme are looking for good looking charismatic people, with a bit of stage presence, who can sing. Ideal musical material then? However swapping the opportunity to sing part of a couple of songs on a Saturday night will seem like a walk in the park compared to nailing it at least 8 times a week for up to 3 hours a show.

Given that the North East has had considerable representation in these programmes and so it is no surprise that a number of “homecoming” shows are coming up.

As a final thought: we have seen a number of these people in action on the stage and yes, they often do a good job in musicals and deserve their place in the billing.
