Tissue
Middlesbrough Studio Theatre Wednesday 20th - Friday 22nd July 2016
Yarm Fellowship Hall Saturday 23rd July 2016
MSK Production’s rendition of Louise Page’s, 1978 play Tissue, brings you a talented and versatile trio focusing on breast cancer awareness.
Tissue', by award-winning playwright Louise Page, is the story of Sally, a young woman in her twenties, who is struggling to come to terms with the discovery, treatment and aftercare of breast cancer.
In Tissue, Sally Bacon discovers she has breast cancer. Fantastically played by Georgia McIntyre, Sally is dressed in white throughout the show despite several costume changes to represent her innocence. As the show begins Sally is circled giving the impression she is surrounded by her cast members Wesley Milligan and Emily Hyndman contrastingly dressed in black.
Following her admission of her condition, Sally's fears are ridiculed, dismissed, treated with indifference and ultimately she is left with no resolution
The play travels through various time zones and locations, to present various small scenes, with each of them forming a part of the larger picture. The short scenes depict touching moments of Sally's experiences during this time, dealing with family members, mum and Brother Simon, friends Fleur and Zoey and lovers, as well as doctors and cool official voices dispensing useful medical knowledge which are interspersed with flashbacks of childhood games.
The play is an intimate, emotional drama which opens up vast areas of feeling beneath the surface of ordinary lives, tugging at the heart-strings and showing the effect on everyone caught up in the crisis.
Director Spencer Kennedy uses a blank stage and minimal set to create an isolated environment for Sally.
All programme sales will donated to cancer research
