Playing dead – a ground-breaking new show heads to ARC
Am I Dead Yet?
Stockton ARC
Thursday 6th October 2016
A play that looks at the brighter side of mortality is coming to ARC Stockton, and the plays writers want Teessiders to embrace a new way of talking about death and dying.
Am I Dead Yet? which heads to ARC on Thursday 6th October, is a new ground breaking new play that looks at death in a different way than you will thought about it before.
Jon Spooner and Chris Thorpe, the forces behind forward-thinking theatre company Unlimited Theatre, want people to watch the show and ditch the negative taboos, especially if they know someone who is living with a long term illness, or has experienced a recent bereavement in their family.
Speaking about the show and what people can expect, Chris said: “It’s about two friends, talking and singing about what happens when we die, how we think about dying, and most importantly, how some of us might be brought back.”
The show does not focus on sadness or negativity, but is filled with positivity and happy memories with some touching moments.
Unlimited Theatre are also running a Death CafĂ© in conjunction with ARC’s Associate Artist Luca Rutherford from 4pm - 6pm on the same day.
Death Cafes were founded in London in 2011, and have become an international phenomenon.
A Death Cafe brings people together, often strangers, to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. The objective is to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives. Join us (it's free to attend) in an accessible, respectful and confidential space for a group directed discussion of death with no agenda (it is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session).
