Comedy Show sees Mr Darcy Brought to Life
Mr Darcy Loses the Plot
South Shields Customs House
Thursday 27th October 2016
An award-winning comedy duo are returning to The Customs House this week with a show about one of literature’s favourite characters.
Mr Darcy Loses the Plot comes to the theatre in Mill Dam, South Shields on Thursday and in true LipService style turns Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice on its head.
Jane Austen is dreaming of Mr Darcy and as her creation takes form he appears before our eyes - a proud, arrogant, handsome creation in uncomfortably tight pants. When a visitor approaches, Jane hastily covers up her work and departs.
Left dangling, what is Darcy to do? He starts to create his own storyline. When Jane returns she finds the plot has moved on and Darcy is dancing to a rather different tune.
It is written by and stars comedy duo Maggie Fox and Sue Ryding, who have previously brought the hugely successful Picture of Doreen Gray, Inspector Norse, Move over Moriarty and Withering Looks to The Customs House.
The venue’s executive director Ray Spencer said: “We’re always thrilled to welcome LipService back to The Customs House. What they do with classic literature is really clever and truly funny. The Independent newspaper call them “Britain’s favourite literary lunatics" and their shows are a must-see for anyone who loves the classics or comedy plays.”
LipService celebrate their 30th touring anniversary this year. Maggie and Sue have also written scripts, voiced characters, appeared on Radio 4 and TV shows such as Coronation Street, Shameless and The Forsythe Saga.
