ROB HOBSON NEEDS TO TALK
Storytelling/Theatre by Matt Miller
Newcastle Alphabetti Theatre
Wednesday 8th - Friday 10th February 2017

Back in Newcastle by demand after a 2016 PBH Edinburgh Free Fringe run, Matt Miller brings Rob Hobson Needs To Talk to Alphabetti Theatre.

Rob likes to share. Arguably too much. Painfully honest and yet riddled with deceit and self-doubt, he sets out to tell stories of his life that definitely aren’t about Sarah. Not at all. But as we mention her, Sarah’s this girl he was with for quite a while. On and off. He’s not in love with her anymore or anything. Much. And have definitely doesn’t still have her diary.

A one man show which fuses comedy, confessional narrative and discomfort to look at the pretty and the ugly side of love and what it takes to move on and heal.

The character has been developed over the course of the last two years, and performed at Scratch Nightsat ARC Stockton, Live Theatre, Edinburgh Fringe 2015 guest spots, and a week long run on the PBH Edinburgh Free Fringe, 2016.

ScotsGay Fringe Review, 2016: sharply clever. . . Matt Miller compels belief . . . This is a very engaging and perceptive portrait of a type of person we will all have encountered, and may have wondered what made them tick.” ****

Audience feedback from development:
“Really engaging, funny!”
“Absolutely LOVED this piece!!! Very emotional, and I’d love to see a full show!”
“Convincing character. . . Really uncomfortable”
“Lonely storytelling in quite an original way. Engaging. “

Matt Miller is a stand up poet and theatre maker from Newcastle upon Tyne. As a poet he has performed at The Nottingham Playhouse and the Olympic Park and his work has featured on BBC Radio 3’s The Verb, where he was praised for his ‘powers of urban storytelling’.
As a theatre maker he has developed work with Live Theatre, Contact Manchester, Gala Durham, New Writing North, Alphabetti Theatre and ARC Stockton.

His first solo show ‘Sticking’ played a near sold-out run at Alphabetti in 2016, and was described as “an emotional, joyful and intense performance”
