Hollie McNish
Tyne Theatre and Opera House are thrilled to announce that acclaimed poet Hollie McNish will bring her show PLUM to the stage on Sunday 22nd October.

Hollie will be joining us to perform poems, read from and chat honestly and openly from her new collection, PLUM, as well as performing some favourites from previous books.

With Benjamin Zephaniah stating ‘I can’t take my ears off her’, Kate Tempest describing her poetry as ‘welcoming, galvanising and beautiful’ and fans ranging from Robin Ince, Pink, Tim Minchen, Marian Keyes to most of the UK’s midwives, Hollie McNish is a poet whose readings are not to be missed.

Hollie is an Arts Foundation Fellow in Spoken Word, has garnered over seven million YouTube views for her online poetry performances and was the first poet to record at London’s famed Abbey Road Studios.

Hollie has two previous poetry collections – Cherry Pie and Papers and an album, Versus, (recorded at Abbey Road). In February 2016, Blackfriars published her memoir of poetry and parenthood, Nobody Told Me. Her latest poetry collection, Plum, is published by Picador.

Plum is a new collection of poems which charts Hollie’s journey from childhood to attempted adulthood. Expect strong language as she talks about fruit and flesh, school discos, guilt, sex, politics, death, transformers and a lot of friendship.

Throughout Plum, McNish allows her recent poems to be interrupted by earlier writing from her younger selves – voices that speak out from the past with disarming and often very funny results. Plum is a celebration, a salute to a life in which we are always growing, tripping, changing and discovering new selves to add to our own messy stores. It will leave the reader in no doubt as to why McNish is considered one of the most important poets of the new generation

Books will be available to purchase at the event. There will be a book signing afterwards.

Theatre Director Joanne Johnson says: “I’m very proud of the theatre’s diverse 2017 events programme, and poetry fans won’t want to miss the utterly hypnotic Hollie McNish. Our 2017 programme continues to expand with even more shows still to be announced! We’re busier than we’ve ever been, which is rather special considering it is also our 150th Anniversary year.”
