Geordie magician
catches thieves using magic
The Cult of Dave
Newcastle Alphabetti Theatre
Wednesday 21st - Friday 23rd February
2018
Gateshead
born magician Dave Alnwick caught thieves using magic and wants to show you how
he did it.
Alnwick is a
regular on the UK cabaret circuit and for the last five years has toured his
hit show 'The Cult of Dave' to packed out crowds. In it he describes an incident which occurred
during his first visit to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010.
While back
stage Alnwick stumbled upon a gang of thieves stealing from performers’
belongings during a show. “I called the
police but knew they’d never arrive in time, I remember thinking if I can just
distract them for long enough there might be a chance” Says David. “I used a combination of magic and psychology
to hold them in place until the police arrived."
The incident
made the headlines and helped Alnwick build a career as a full time
magician.
"After
it all happened a lot of people started asking how I did what I did so I
thought I'd write a show about it."
'The Cult of
Dave' has continued performing to sell-out crowds every year since. February will be the first time Alnwick has
performed the show on his home turf.
"This
is my first time performing in Newcastle since I left school. Hopefully I'm a little better now."
