Lee Kyle: Folly

At the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe, Lee Kyle got a really nice review.  The bit that stuck in his mind was that 'It would be good to see him find more of his audience'.

"Yeah" he thought "It bloody would!"

So, in a moment of madness, he has decided to bite off more than he can chew and  has booked a 30+ date national tour, as an attempt to answer the question "What happens if you do a tour while not actually being famous?"

Then, as if that wasn't enough, he is ending the tour with a gig in a 400 seat theatre in his home town.

He'll also be recording a documentary as he goes, while hoping not to regret it.

He's good by the way, should have probably have said that earlier.  He's done a bit of telly and radio but nothing you'll have seen, which is a good thing really or the whole point of the tour won't have made sense.

He had a book out last year, that was in the top ten comedians books on Amazon UK and led to almost no raising of his profile.  His podcast with Sammy Dobson (From BBCs Boy Meets Girl (Yep, she's better known)) is called Which Is The Best? and is funny and is liked by people who like it.

Described by the BBC as a "top up-and-coming comedy performer", Lee Kyle has spent much of his life on a never ending quest to never have a proper job. 

He was in an all male Spice Girls tribute act before spending a decade as a professional wrestler where he became the champion of the Northeast of England.  The fact that it was him who decided who won that title does nothing to diminish his achievement.

Managing the difficult trick of being both odd and relatable, his jokes veer between the clever and the silly and deliver more than their fair share of belly laughs.  He is an in demand comedian and compere with a sharp wit and bags of likeability that can thrive in any environment.

His book ‘Spandex Ballet – How I Wasted My Twenties Wrestling’ was the top selling wrestling book on Amazon UK for a time and reached as high as eighth in the comedy book chart.

He has written for Radio 4 and appeared on BBC Radio's Jesting About as well as 4 Extra's ‘Ross Noble’s Newcastle’ and wrote and starred in a sketch for ITV's coverage of the Rugby World Cup and CBBC's Wolfblood premiere. 

He has a sideline in comedy for kids, hosting the monthly show at The Stand in Newcastle (Among many others) as well as hosting his touring game show ‘Gunge – A Show With Gunge In It’.  Christmas 2017 has seen him play Muddles in pantomime in the Alun Armstrong theatre in Stanley.  He is the first to admit that it’s odd for someone with an alternative style to have worked with Jedward and Sweep…

He hosts the successful 'Which is the Best?' podcast and has a Youtube video with 3 million views, on which most of the comments are from Americans telling him they can't understand his accent.

He isn’t famous.
