Fully Grounded
On Tour
Choreographed by Robby Graham
& ReGina Wielingen
WORLD Premiere
: WEDNEsday 25 APRIL SUNDERLAND cOLLEGE ARTS ACADEMY
Fully Grounded is an exciting new double bill of
world premieres from choreographers ReGina Wielingen and Robby Graham,
commissioned by the North East’s leading professional early career dance
company, Fertile Ground. Premiering at Sunderland College’s Arts Academy, Bede
Campus, Wednesday 25th April, the new works will subsequently be shown at theatre venues and arts
and heritage sites across the North East up to Saturday July 21st and
will include a gala at Dance City, Newcastle the North East’s development
organisation for dance. The new works tackle
the theme of borders and barriers, real and imagined between people and cultures. The choreographers,
who have been selected for their reputations, diverse experience and talent
have been encouraged to approach the theme with candour, honesty and
provocation.
Fully Grounded will be performed by Fertile Ground’s all female company
of new dancers: Katherine Whale, Giulia Coti Zelati, Alyssa Lisle and Lerato
Mncube, all of whom are based in the North East. The production is supported by
Arts Council England and Newcastle City Council.
Fertile Ground was established in 2013 to give
opportunities to emerging dance artists and to offer audiences and participants
outstanding dance experiences. Often performing in unconventional spaces, the
company commissions work by internationally recognised choreographers, touring
the North East region and delivering high quality workshops in schools and
communities. Fully Grounded
represents the most ambitious and exciting season to
date for Fertile Ground, building on the success of the Arts Council funded
pilot project & Dancing the Road (2016).
This season also
sees the announcement of two new directors for the company. Malgorzata Dzierzon and Renaud Wiser take over from Fertile Ground’s
Founding Artistic Director Dora Frankel as joint Artistic Directors of the
company from March 26th.
Commenting on her appointment, Malgorzata said; “I am thrilled to be part of the future of Fertile
Ground. I have long been an admirer of Dora and the work she has done. I look
forward to widening the international and national links and being part of the
North East Dance ecology.”
Renaud Wiser said: “Fertile Ground represents something we are both passionate about -
supporting young and emerging dance artists and making work that excites
audiences. We look forward to creating performances in unusual spaces and
continuing the great work that has already been started.”
