When Lerner and Loewe’s My FairLady opened on Broadway it collected 6 Tony Awards including Best Musical, while
the film version took home eight Oscars, including Best Picture. Based on
George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion, it tells the tale of a cockney flower girl
transformed into an elegant lady.
Eliza Doolittle (Lucy Sutton) is
a young flower seller with an unmistakable cockney accent, which keeps her in
the lower rungs of Edwardian Society. Professor Henry Higgins (Jonathan Cash)
tries to teach her to speak like a lady, when an unlikely friendship begins to
flourish.
It features one of musical
theatres greatest scores. Including songs such as Wouldn’t it Be Loverly, With
a Little Bit of Luck, The Rain in
Spain. On the Street Where You Live,
I Could Have Danced all Night, Ive Grown
Accustomed to Her Face.
