Tuesday 24th September 2024

Some of the North East’s biggest and best loved comedians are teaming up for one night only raise money for projects which use the power of laughter to change lives and communities.

The Big Daft Jamboree – described by organisers Felt Nowt as “the North East version of the Royal Variety -Performance” – takes place at Newcastle’s Tyne Theatre on Tuesday September 24th 2024.

The event will support the outreach activities delivered by comedian’s co-operative Felt Nowt and feature performances from:

• Britain’s Got Talent winner Lost Vice Guy

• Dave Johns, star of the Palm D’or winning I, Daniel Blake

• Game of Thrones star Ben Crompton

• Local legend Alfie Joey, reuniting with Cal Halbert for a one-off performance of iconic impressionists The Mimic Men.

The event will be hosted by North East comedian of the Year winner Catherine Young, with more acts to be announced.

The only comedy company owned by comedians, Felt Not is a community interest company formed both to create more opportunities for local comics, but also to bring comedy to the smaller villages and towns of the region.

Felt Nowt also delivers outreach events to community organisations in the form of stand-up comedy workshops, using comedy to help people with confidence, resilience and general wellbeing – as well as providing comedians for charity fundraisers, with good causes supported by the organisation including:

• Rape Crisis

• Newcastle Foodbank

• Chester-le-Street Town FC Disabled team

• Suicide Affects Friends and Family Everywhere

• Puma Cheer and Dance

• Red Cross Ukraine Appeal

• Spinal Injuries Association

• A Pain in the Arts

• Water Safety Awareness

• Nerve Tumours UK

• Jarrow Mindset

• Bruno’s Magic Hat

• Man Club.

Lee Kyle from Felt Nowt explained “We see the Big Daft Jamboree as the North East version of the Royal Variety Show – the chance to see not just household names but to catch some of the lesser known gems the local comedy scene has to offer. We’ve announced some brilliant acts already and we still have more incredibly talented individuals we can't wait to reveal.

“When local charities ask for comedians to promote their events, Felt Nowt answers the call – and over the last three of so years we’ve helped over £20,000 for local good causes, while also using the power of laughter to boost people’s self-esteem, confidence and wellbeing.

“But as a volunteer organisation there’s only so much we can do - this special show will allow us to do so much more.”
