There’s fun for all the family at Gala Durham this half term as The Baddies take to the stage. 

The brand-new stage adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s smash-hit story will entertain audiences from Tuesday 25 to Thursday 27 February. 

Telling the story of the very worst Baddies in the world, the show features a witch, a troll and an ancient ghost roar, who spook and cast spells as they try and scare a girl out of her wits. Find out who will succeed or if the girl is braver than they think.

Directed and choreographed by Katie Beard, with songs by Joe Stilgoe, who also created the catchy lyrics for the stage adaptation of Zog and The Flying Doctors, The Baddies is a laugh-out-loud riot for all the family. 

Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s book has been adapted for the stage by David Greig and Jackie Crichton, and co-produced alongside Freckle Productions, who are pioneers in imaginative storytelling for children. 

The team are responsible for smash-hit stage successes including Stick Man, Tabby McTat, Tiddler and Other Terrific Tales, and Zog and the Flying Doctors. 

Cllr Elizabeth Scott, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for economy and partnerships, said: “We can’t wait to welcome The Baddies to Gala Durham next week. This fantastic show offers fun for all the family and brings a wonderful story to life on stage. 

“With performances at various times across the three days, it’s a wonderful way for families to spend some quality time together and of course, inspire a whole new generation of theatre goers. We want to ensure culture is accessible for all ages here in County Durham, and what better way to start than with this Julia Donaldson classic.”
